Medical pharmaceutical treatment of female infertility may be indicated based on a female problem such as anovulation but also on a problem of the couple that can be solved by treating the female by Controlled Ovarian Hyperstimulation (COH) followed by Intra Uterine Insemination (IUI) or IVF/ET (Embryo Transfer). In COH, complicated parenteral drug regimens are used carrying the risk of Ovarian Hyperstimulation Syndrome (OHSS). Less OHSS, higher efficacy (i.e. the establishment of a vital singleton pregnancy), and improvement of convenience are targets set by Pantarhei Bioscience for new treatments.
Pantarhei Bioscience has designed and has tested several new regimen for COH.
- COH using recLH (LH-COH). A feasibility study has been completed clinically with positive results. The project has been outlicensed to Serono (now Merck/Serono).
- COH using anti-progestogens as oral GnRH antagonist (RU-COH). A feasibility study has confirmed the clinical concept.
- A patent application for a new oral GnRH antagonist has been submitted.
For the treatment of male infertility due to oligozoöspermia a treatment concept has been patent protected (OTE-F), but clinical confirmation is still required.
