Symposium Pantarhei Bioscience
12th World Congress on Menopause, Madrid

At the 12th World Congress on Menopause in Madrid, Spain, Pantarhei Bioscience organised a symposium entitled “Estetrol: a fetal SERM”. This symposium was chaired by Prof Regine Sitruk-Ware from the Population Council in New York, USA. Prof Philippe Bouchard from the Hospital Saint Antoine in Paris, France, introduced estetrol to the audience and further discussed the potential use of estetrol as estrogenic compound in the contraceptive pill. Next Professor Jean-Michel Foidart from the University of Liège, Belgium continued with a presentation on the possible use of estetrol as natural SERM for HRT and prevention of osteoporosis. The final speaker was Associate Professor Christian Singer from the AKH in Vienna, Austria, who presented data on the role of estetrol in the treatment of breast cancer. At the congress, organised by the International Menopause Society (IMS), a Supplement of Climacteric, the journal of the IMS, entitled “Estetrol: Vita Nova for a Fetal Steroid” was presented to all congress participants. The Supplement contains 12 papers on pre-clinical and phase 1A studies performed with estetrol.
